Metallica is playing a role in the success of the U.S. Olympic team -- in a small, indirect way.  Olympic snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg says heavy metal helped him grab a gold medal in Sochi.

Kotsenburg claimed victory in the Olympic debut of slopestyle snowboarding over the weekend, but not before blasting some Metallica, Slayer, and Judas Priest to prepare for the event.

The 20-year-old Park City, Utah resident tells "Today" he started the day by "bumping" the metal vets to get into a nice mindset.  Sage adds that he ate some "random healthy stuff" for breakfast and then won a gold medal by completing a jump that he'd never attempted before.  He says he was relaxed at the start of his run, telling himself that "whatever happens, happens."
